Values That Stay in Everyday Work

Why company values appear at login: a mirror for the way we work.

Teams & collaboration Organisation & context

Company values often sit on a website, in a presentation, or in a document read once at the start. Afterwards, they disappear from everyday work. That is a missed opportunity: building a company offers the chance to define deliberately how collaboration should feel, and to question that decision regularly rather than only once.

Many things that become frustrating at work are not just small annoyances. They often conflict with the culture a team wants to live: a decision is not made transparent, responsibility is left behind, or an agreement is ignored. When values are not present, a shared measure for understanding those moments is missing.

Making values visible at login

The feature is deliberately simple: company values are shown clearly at every login. They do not need to be searched for or opened in another overview. They belong to the moment someone starts work.

This matters because working time is recorded anyway. At least at the beginning and end of a workday, and often in between, people come into contact with the tool. Values do not become another task; they become a regular reminder of how shared work is intended to happen.

A mirror for one's own actions

The purpose is not to lecture others or monitor behaviour. The first mirror is for oneself. Am I acting the way we want to work together? Is this decision understandable? Am I taking responsibility as we intended?

These questions need no large ritual. A short recurring prompt is often enough to pause. It makes clear that culture does not happen outside work, but in everyday decisions, messages, and handovers.

Shaping culture together instead of merely accepting it

Making values visible also means not treating them as unchangeable truth. If a value repeatedly creates friction or does not match actual experience, that is a reason to talk. A company can shape its culture actively and should use that freedom.

Regular visibility helps notice differences between aspiration and reality earlier. Instead of only being annoyed by an unpleasant situation, a team can ask which value was touched and whether behaviour, a rule, or the value itself should evolve.

Not a poster, but part of the start

Values do not become another area where people spend time. They are a short, clear part of starting work. That keeps them present without creating administration and gives everyone, especially oneself, a chance to shape the culture consciously every day.
